Pune’s 10 Must Try Unique Food Joints

Pune is well-known for its Traditional Food specialties like Kande Poha,Misal Pav,Thalipeeth,Puran Poli and not to miss Sujata Mastani. Being a metropolitan city, Pune’s Culinary world includes restaurants serving Irani,Puneri,North Indian, Italian, International cuisines.

Pune has been home to some really old restaurants serving maharastrian delicacies. But as the city has grown in an IT hub, so has the culinary options in pune. However, there are few food joints which are unique in their own way.

Here’s the list of Unique food joint in Pune, that you shouldn’t miss if you are a foodie.

1. Vaidya Uphar Gruh – Green Misal

An over 100 year old joint, Vaidya Uphar Gruh is known for its unique characteristic of using “Green” ingredients for its preparation. They use Green chillies, green tomatoes in preparing “Tarri” unlike red tari used all over Pune. Green Misal here has nylon poha chivda,onions,sev and wedge of lemon with that green tari served with Bread slice

2. Poona Guest House – Dadpe Pohe

A pohe variety which requires no cooking only phodni(Tadka) is added to raw Pohe. Further, uncooked pohe is mixed with with Onions,green chillies,Freshly grated coconut,dry roasted peanuts,sugar,lemon juice and fresh coriander by mixing it thoroughly and is covered for a while which means “dadapane” in Marathi. This Pohe delicacy is rarely served in a restaurant mostly made in Puneri home as an evening snack especially when kids arrive from school. 3. JJ Garden Vada Pav

A Vada Pav with a unique characteristic of green Chutney. The pav served here has a green chutney application, tucked with a big flattened crispy vada followed by soft and moist Pav. The accompaniments here are churra of vada with a marinated green chilli. Make sure youa re ready to struggle up in the queue to get a hold of that might vadapav.

4. Dilli Chaatt Darbar – Chole Bhature

The best place to have Dilli Style Chole Bhature is Dili Chaat Darbar in Pune !! Perfectly cooked dark brown color chole devoid of those oil gravys with bang on spice levels accompanied with crispy non oily bhaturas. They also serve delicious Aloo bedmi puri and chaats.

5. Vohuman Café – Cheese Omelet

The brain behind that yummy cheesy double cheese omelet is jolly Hormazd Uncle at Vohuman Café.The double egg cheese omlete with bournvita is a must have. Those who don’t like bornvita can go for Irani tea. Bun Jam Maska and Cheese Bread Toast are stuff compitietors to double cheese omelet. Get ready to run for a marathon next day to lose those cheese calories !!

6. Amruteshwar – Poha and Chai at 4 AM

Are you having hunger pangs at 4 am or you looking for a break after Exam Preparation ?? An answer to above question is “Amruteshwar Poha” The scene at Nalstop around 4 am is you will see a crowd with two wheeler parked bustling with people having Poha or upma or sheera with Chai ki Chuski and not to forget “Newspapers” getting piled up all around you !!

7. Stew Art – Stewneri

Stew Art makes up to the list as it is “India’s First Stew Speciality Restaurant “. 10. Pagdandi Books Chai Café – BOOKS ARE FOOD FOR THE BRAIN

Happiness is a cup of good coffee with a company of good books to indulge in and “Pagdandi” is a such unique place in Pune for enjoying best of both the worlds. Café also stocks vegan food with wonderful cakes made from jiggery to some buns maska to relish with chai.

  1. Must go to all the places you listed. Pagdandi has been on my list for the longest time! And I saw the crowd at Nal Stop at 3:30 am once, wondering what has happened.
