Granny’s Gujarati Broken Wheat Pudding Recipe(Fada Ni Lapsi)

A very famous traditional Gujarati dessert prepared on special Occasions is a Broken Wheat Pudding, popularly know as “Fada Ni Lapsi” in Gujarati. Its is prepared on auspicious Occasions like Marriage, VastuPujan, Baby Showers, Dhanteras and list is very long !! Aren’t you looking for ‘No Sugar’ Tag 😛 This sweet dish has Sugar but I have strong reason for it !!

Few days ago, It was my Granny’s Birthday and for her Lunch Round up, I prepared Fada Ni Lapsi which is her favorite recipe. I have lived with my Granny during my college days, Fada ni lapsi was the first thing I learnt from her. Since then she has stopped making it and loves it eat made by me !! I would not dare to lose my loyal fan by making any changes in the recipe.

Each Gujarati Household has its own Family recipe of preparing Fada Ni Lapsi be it in Pressure Cooker or substituting it with Jaggery. I belive in forwarding the legacy by following it with 0 variations and alterations.

  1. Heat ghee in a Kadhai,add Cinnamon,Kaju and raisin. Add Broken wheat and stir it continuously on a slow flame till they turn into a light golden brown color.
  2. Add water and cook Broken Wheat with a closed lid till water gets absorbed on a medium flame
  3. Add Sugar, giving a nice stir till it incorporates to Broken Wheat and let it cook on a slow flame. Turn off the flame once ghee separates.
  4. Transfer Broken Wheat Pudding in a serving bowl garnishing with Cardamom powder and Sliced Almonds.
Recipe Notes

P.S. Use Two cups of Water if Broken Wheat is a month old.

  1. Thanks @Dipti Will be looking forward for your Jaggery version and it is going to be my preferred version as it contains No sugar !! A reason to have it more frequently
